In an unprecedented
move, thirty-one Taiwanese legislators signed a petition to stop the political
killings in the Philippines. This was made possible through the efforts
made by the Solidarity for Peoples Power (SPP) and Legislator Kao Chin,
Su-Mei.
The SPP is a blog in Taiwan and belong to a loose network of Taiwanese
groups and individuals against the political killings in the Philippines.
Legislator Kao Chin, Su-Mei, on the other hand belongs to the Non-Partisan
Solidarity Union (NPSU) and one of the representatives of the Indigenous
Peoples in Taiwan.
Besides the SPP, the international solidarity officer of the Cordillera
Peoples Alliance (CPA) and the legal counsel of Bayan Muna Party from
the Philippines sought the assistance of Legislator Kao Chin to support
the calls of Philippine and international groups to stop the killings
in the Philippines.
This response of the Taiwanese legislators is a great contribution to
pressure the Philippine government to stop this wanton disregard for human
rights of its own people. It is hoped that through this and other actions
planned in Taiwan among overseas Filipinos and Taiwanese would end the
jkillings and give justice to the victims.
