targeted for liquidation! Condemn the killing spree of the GMA regime! | Seattle --
Human Rights Philippines, a member of the Alliance for a Just and Lasting
Peace condemns the continuing political killings in the Philippines amidst
false promises from the prime suspect President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo
and her military to resolve this spate of killings.
The total extra-judicial killings exceed 700 cases since US backed Pres.
Gloria-Macapagal-Arroyo came to power. The most recent victims include
Rie Mon Guran, 21 years old and member of the UCCP- Christian Youth Fellowship
of South Bicol Conference. Guran was very active against large-scale mining
in Albay. He received multiple gunshots. The other victims include Dr.
Chandu Claver who is in critical condition at the time of this writing
and his slain wife Alice Claver.

The above victims added to a long list of peasants, workers, Bayan Muna
(People First) organizers, church activists, journalists, lawyers and
civilians who are critical of the repressive policies of the current administration.
The fact that most victims are from progressive organizations and are
affiliated with organizations tagged by the Philippine military as communists,
subversives, “enemy of the state,” or simply “terrorists”
show that the crimes are premeditated and part of a systematic plan to
eradicate legitimate opposition in the country.

Who after all are the terrorists? The Philippine government is the fourth
biggest recipient of US Military Aid next to Israel, Egypt and Columbia.
Much like the sending of new weaponry to Israel to invade Lebanon, the
US government is blatantly responsible for propping up the mercenary Armed
Forces of the Philippines and local politicians to carry out human rights
violations against the very people that the government ought to protect.

What is worse is that known violators like Gen. Jovito Palparan, who has
left a trail mark of blood in every territory that he runs was even commended
        by President Arroyo herself.

Friends and solidarity allies in the US will continue to decry the current
injustices in the Philippines, and will do their utmost efforts to expose
and oppose the crimes of the US backed Arroyo regime against her people.

 Stop the political killings!
 Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo Resign!
Resume peace talk between the Philippine government and the National Democratic
        Front!
