Support the Benguet Mining Alert and Action Network (BMAAN)

We encourage you to support the Benguet Mining Alert and Action Network (BMAAN). The BMAAN was launched on August 7, 2008 in La Trinidad, Benguet. The BMAAN shall serve as a vehicle for:

o Sharing knowledge, skills, and material resources for the monitoring and documentation, and the communication and dissemination of information regarding the activities or actions of corporations, local government units, and national government agencies that pertain to large mining;

o Doing the actual monitoring and documentation;

o Engaging in the actual sharing of information with one another and with the mass media;

o Coming up with common statements of position and publicizing these;

o Planning, coordinating, and actually conducting common political activities - such as waging signature campaigns, lobbying the provincial government, picketing national government agencies and the offices of the large mining companies, etc.

o Learning from our shared experiences and using the lessons to plan and conduct further actions.

What You Can Do:

  • Projection of issues and the campaign against large scale mining in Benguet province and its effects to the environment, biodiversity, culture, and lives of the indigenous communities therein. This can be done through the issuance of articles, statements; the hosting of educational for a and other awareness-raising initiatives
  • Putting pressure on the Philippine government, foreign corporations, and other concerned international institutions to act on the issue of large mining in Benguet through writing, signing and publishing letters, petitions and statements of concern
  • Responding to and wider circulation of CPA Action Alerts and petition letters on mining, political killings and repression, and human rights violations
  • Lobbying against destructive mining projects in the Benguet
  • Material and financial support is also welcome to sustain the campaign against large mines in Benguet province.
